Love/Hate

I do not understand why I have fallen in love with sewing. It requires so much ironing! I hate to iron but I LOVE wearing skirts I have made and know where the fabric has come from.

So off I go again to pull out the iron and iron paper of all things. One must have a smooth pattern to start with, and smooth fabric to cut the pattern out from.

Photos soon of my work in progress!

Money, jobs and ethics

I have been to the doctor twice today. First the eye doctor to get new glasses then to a family practice doctor for my sick husband. Things like this make me wonder about careers. These people are getting paid a lot of money based on the amount they charge me and my insurance.

I wonder about the people who work here. Do they come here everyday because they love their practice and helping people? Were they pushed to be doctors by family and didn’t want to disappoint? Or do they just know it’s good money?

I won’t lie, I sometimes wonder if I should be a med assistant. I would probably make more money, have better hours and have a set job everyday.

But. I don’t think I would be happy, and while I like people, I don’t think I like them that much. Especially sick ones.

This makes me wonder, is it ethical to take a job just for the money? We all need money and like to have lots of it. But is it ok to put ourselves in situations we don’t want to be in? Especially if that job involves doing something for other people, like medicine?

Never to worry, I don’t really want to be in medicine nor am I looking to change jobs. But I wonder non the less.

I love that these are blooming but I hate some trees when they bloom. Like bradford pair trees. These things are everywhere and they smell atrocious when they bloom. Not the mention they can’t stand up to our crazy weather and end up breaking. Ugh. I like nature and all but really? Give me weeping willows any day!

Music. Dancing. Rhythm. Food. Creativity. I feel like I have rediscovered all of these things in the past month. I feel centered, strong, ready and amazing.

Recycling and Apartment Living, Not a Match Made in Heaven

Like a large amount of people in the city of Dallas, I live in an apartment. Well they call it a townhouse but you get the idea…

One of the biggest steps in trying to be green and eco-friendly is to recycle. Well the City of Dallas has made this extra difficult for those of us living in multi-family dwellings. They do not provide recycling services to anyone who does not live in a house. So, what is an apartment/townhome dweller to do? Well the good news, I have found, is that there are DISD schools pretty much everywhere and at these schools they have single-stream recycling bins from Waste Management!

So after this discovery I bought a big tub and fill it up weekly with our recyclables and haul it over the the nearby elementary school. And by haul it, and the word I, I really mean my darling husband. I am really good at filling up our tub and normally can’t carry it alone. I recycle everything!

While this is definitely a solution, it is inconvenient and I really don’t think that many people will be up to wasting valuable gas and time on doing this weekly excursion, unless they already have kids to pick up from the school. Maybe one day City of Dallas will help out all of its apartment dwelling residents… My fingers are crossed.
